Volunteer Agreement and Waiver

The terms below apply to every Al Ma'wa Sanctuary volunteer. Please read them before submitting your application.

Volunteer Terms & Conditions

  1. I agree to volunteer services at Al Ma'wa for Nature and Wildlife (Al Ma'wa Sanctuary) with no expectation of pay, benefits, or other privileges of employment of any kind.
  2. I understand that placement into volunteer positions is at the sole decision of Al Ma'wa Sanctuary, and my volunteer assignment/service may be withdrawn or terminated at any time.
  3. I agree to follow all Al Ma'wa Sanctuary rules and all applicable governmental laws, rules, and regulations, and to follow the directions of Al Ma'wa Sanctuary staff, exercising reasonable care in all activities I participate in.
  4. I understand that despite careful preparation and instruction, not all hazards can be foreseen. I am solely responsible for determining if I am physically fit and/or properly skilled for any volunteer activity, and I always have the right to refuse to participate in any task I am uncomfortable with by informing Al Ma'wa Sanctuary in writing.
  5. I agree to waive, release, and hold Al Ma'wa Sanctuary — including its employees, visitors, and independent contractors — harmless from all tort and civil liability arising from or relating to my volunteer services.
  6. I understand and agree that Al Ma'wa Sanctuary is not responsible for any of my personal property that is lost, damaged, or stolen while participating as a volunteer.
  7. I grant Al Ma'wa Sanctuary permission to use my photograph or image, with or without my name, for any and all purposes, including private or public presentations, advertising, publicity, and promotions.
  8. In the event of a medical emergency, I consent to transfer to the nearest hospital reasonably accessible and to the administration of any treatment deemed necessary by a licensed physician or doctor. This authorization does not cover major surgeries.
  9. In consideration of being permitted to participate in the volunteer activity, I, for myself and my executors, administrators and assignees, assume all risks and hold Al Ma'wa Sanctuary, its employees, volunteers, and any individuals associated with the site harmless from any and all liability, causes of action, debts, claims, damages, or demands arising in connection with my participation.
  10. I understand that volunteering as an animal caretaker may entail a risk of physical injury or death, and I may be exposed to hazards including, without limitation, weather, travel, terrain, poisonous reptiles or plants, wild animals, fire, and strenuous manual labor, and I assume any risk associated with the foregoing.
  11. I understand that any concerns regarding employees, conditions, or policies must be directed to the volunteer coordinator, including any changes to my limitations or emergency contact information.

If the Volunteer Is Under 18

A parent or guardian must sign this agreement on the minor volunteer's behalf, and additionally agrees to the following:

  1. I agree my child may volunteer at Al Ma'wa Sanctuary with no expectation of pay, benefits, or employment, and I understand this placement may be withdrawn or terminated at any time at the sanctuary's sole discretion.
  2. I am solely responsible for determining if my child is physically fit and/or properly skilled for any volunteer activity, and I always have the right to refuse to allow my child to participate in any task I am uncomfortable with.
  3. I give my consent for my dependent to sign him/herself in and out of the volunteer activity, and to leave the site without adult supervision at the end of the workday, assuming all risk associated with my dependent leaving the site unsupervised.

Volunteer Code of Conduct

  1. Volunteers will portray a positive role model by maintaining an attitude of loyalty, patience, courtesy, tact, and maturity, and will act in a caring, honest, respectful, and responsible manner.
